How to encourage a love for reading in kids

Make it about joy, not performance

Let reading be fun, not a chore. Allow your child to choose what they like, even if it's the same story over and over. Familiar favorites can build confidence and attachment to reading.

Incorporate reading into everyday life

Reading doesn’t have to be limited to books. Menus, signs, labels, and recipes all count. Show your child that reading is useful, everywhere, and part of daily living.

Celebrate reading moments

Celebrate when your child finishes a book, uses a new word from a story, or asks deep questions. Encouragement reinforces the idea that reading is something to feel proud of.

Be a reading role model

Children mimic adults. If they see you reading regularly, for work or pleasure, they’re more likely to view reading as valuable and enjoyable too.
