As an educational specialist and school psychology expert, and as part of the Kiddies expert team, I have the privilege of exploring stories that go beyond entertainment and truly support children’s emotional and social development. With a strong foundation in child mental health and resilience, I’m always looking for ways to help children better understand themselves and the world around them.

The stories in Kiddies do just that. I’ve selected five that stood out to me for their heart, honesty, and the meaningful lessons they offer. These stories not only reflect the challenges kids face, but also show them how capable, courageous, and connected they truly are:

1. When Feelings Need Friends

In this story, Kai discovers how important it is to recognize and respect the emotions of others. By reflecting on how adults handled feelings in his life, Kai begins to understand the value of emotional boundaries and compassion in friendships. It’s a powerful reminder for kids that being a good friend means knowing when to listen, support, and honor someone else’s emotional space.

2. Finding Peace Between the Pages

Hailey is overwhelmed with frustration toward her younger sister but instead of lashing out, she learns how to calm herself down. This story introduces kids to grounding and self-soothing strategies through Hailey’s experience. It’s a relatable and gentle way to teach emotional regulation, especially in sibling relationships or moments of big feelings.

3. The Game I Lost - But Didn’t Lose at All!

Luna’s team doesn’t win the class treasure hunt, and she’s crushed. But as the day unfolds, Luna learns that losing the game doesn’t mean losing the moment. She discovers the joy of teamwork, connection, and the lessons that come from showing up and playing your part. This story reminds kids that some of the best wins aren’t trophies but the friendships and lessons along the way.

4. Hailey’s Brush with Courage

When Hailey proudly shares her artwork, a classmate’s criticism shakes her confidence. But with the help of a kind friend, she learns that everyone’s gifts are different - and that her creativity is something to be proud of. This story gently teaches kids the value of embracing their individuality, and reminds them that comparison only dims their inner light.

5. Finding My Voice

Jason feels nervous about asking his teacher a question in class - but when he finally speaks up, he’s met with kindness and encouragement. That moment empowers him not only to keep using his voice, but to help a classmate do the same. This story is a beautiful example of how bravery builds confidence, and how advocating for yourself can inspire others to find their voice, too.

These stories are more than just tales - they’re tools for building emotional intelligence, empathy, and confidence. Each one invites kids to understand themselves and others a little better and that’s the kind of learning that lasts a lifetime.
